Mexico City Braces for Mass Protests

Mexico City will face a day with multiple social mobilizations this Saturday, April 11, 2026, mainly in the Cuauhtémoc borough, where most protests, cultural activities, and gatherings are concentrated, which could affect vehicular traffic. According to the schedule of the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC), at least 12 gatherings are planned, as well as bike rides, cultural events, and political meetings that will take place throughout the day at different points in the capital. Cannabis, social, and political protests will dominate the day. Among the most relevant mobilizations, the collective Platform 4:20 stands out, which will gather at noon at the Monument to the Mother to demand regulation, self-cultivation, and legal spaces for cannabis consumption. In parallel, the collective Daughters of Cannabis will carry out activities at Plaza Tlaxcoaque and the Hemiciclo a Juárez, with a focus on rights, gender perspective, and social support. In the international sphere, the Mexican Association of Muslim Women will hold a concentration at the Embassy of Iran, in protest of recent events in the Middle East, which could affect Paseo de la Reforma. Likewise, the Coalition for Freedom will demonstrate at the Embassy of Cuba, in Polanco, to demand political changes and greater transparency. Bike rides, events, and other gatherings will also impact traffic. In addition to the protests, bike rides are planned in boroughs such as Azcapotzalco, Iztapalapa, and Gustavo A. Madero, as well as routes that will depart from points such as Indios Verdes towards the “Luis Enrique Erro” Planetarium. Activities will also take place in spaces such as the Monument to the Revolution and the Palace of Fine Arts, where collectives will hold informational and cultural events. In the afternoon, animalist organizations will protest in front of a hotel in the Benito Juárez borough to demand the closure of a dolphinarium, which could cause slow traffic on Insurgentes Sur. The capital's authorities do not rule out intermittent blockades, the presence of additional contingents, or affectations on primary roads, so it is recommended that the public take precautions, anticipate transfers, and consider alternative routes during this Saturday.

Children's Shows and Tribute in Mexico City

Mexico City will host traveling shows and workshops on oral storytelling with retro-projections aimed at introducing children to literature, theater, and visual arts. Through performance, the initiative seeks to encourage new approaches to educational content. The team «Historias de Papel» narrates stories by various authors addressing themes such as discrimination, children's rights, child labor and poverty, empathy, personal growth, solidarity, trust, and friendship, as well as the value of emotional connection and respect for diversity. The proposal includes retro-projections inspired by works of visual artists recognized by children, and after the show, a dialogue is opened where artists discuss the presented themes with the children. The retro-projection format offers a way to tell, paint, and unfold stories in the venue, incorporating languages of cinema, literature, visual arts, and theater so that children can not only enjoy a scenic experience but also learn. This project will be presented for a short season at the Forum A poco no, on Saturdays and Sundays in April at 1 PM. In «Contando Pintores», with stories and poems, they will paint lakes, bugs, birds, and black holes and have an approach to the works of Van Gogh, Dalí, and Xul Sol. Tickets can be purchased at the forum box office or through the Ticketmaster system. At the Café Concert «Lo de Inés», next Saturday, April 11, at 9 PM, a tribute to the Argentine singer Mercedes Sosa, known as «La Negra» or «The Voice of Latin America», will take place. For this tribute, a group of artists including singer and musician Ernesto Anaya, multi-instrumentalist in charge of musical direction; Damián Tuso, musician, arranger, master of Argentine tango and folklore; Montserrat Revah, guest percussionist; and María Inés Montilla, singer, author of the original idea and responsible for the script, have prepared a show that will premiere the piece «Con la piel en América». This is a continuation of «Nadie puede para el viento», premiered the previous year as a first tribute to this singer who performed on multiple stages in Mexico. Through a musical narrative, this show captures the essence of Mercedes Sosa, who, despite exile, always showed her coherence, political commitment, and artistic militancy. The event to enjoy La Negra's repertoire, which describes part of the life of a woman who, despite the physical distance, never stopped feeling and singing for her land, will take place at the forum located in the Argentine restaurant Quebracho, at Hamburgo 313, Col. Juárez, in CDMX. «Historias de Pared, Performance for Infancies», declared a Project of Cultural Interest by the Nation of Argentina, is a pedagogical and social project created and produced in Mexico. Reservations can be made at the following phone numbers: 55 1688 5612 and 55 5402 2203.
